The Rulers of the Roost
These are the original hens of the Homestead. We started with eight, but illness and predators took half of them. We are constantly learning and respectful of Mother Nature and the circle of life. These girls are survivors. They strut around ruling the backyard and make sure everyone out there knows it. We treat them like the Queens that they are.

Gudalupe
Hatched: Spring 2024
Black Sex Link
Gudalupe looked like a turkey that was put in the wrong bin when we found her at Tractor Supply. We felt terrible for her and had to take her home with us. She is the only of the OG's that squats down wanting us to pet her. She rules the roost, but only pecks if someone tries to take her spot on the roost. Guadalupe is a very big girl. It isn't hard to tell which egg is hers. She is very comfortable in her big body.

Gudalupe
Egg Color: Light Brown
Egg Size: Enormous
Gudalupe lays the biggest eggs we have ever seen without making a peep. She calmly walks to her favorite nesting box, quietly lays her giant egg and then is back to business in the backyard. Guadalupe was the first girl to lay an egg. She set the standard. All the ladies lay their eggs in the same nesting box that Guadalupe chose. This chicken is the definition of BOSS BABE.

Tammy
Hatched: Spring 2024
Brahma
Tammy has been beautiful since the moment we saw her mixed in with all of the other chicks. We think that she flaunts her "Uggs" and tries to make the other girls jealous, but she doesn't ever peck them so she's all show. After her first molt, Tammy really grew into her voluptuous body and struts around with swagger. Every time Tammy lays an egg, she sounds like she's giving birth to an elephant.

Tammy
Egg Color: Brown
Egg Size: Very Large
Tammy is like a ninja when it comes to laying her eggs. No one ever sees her go into the coop and into her laying box. She doesn't make a sound when she's in there. Sometimes, we catch her in the act and she quietly chirps to let us know she's in there taking care of her business. Other times, one of her eggs is magically lying there waiting for us to collect it. Tammy is one classy girl.

Wanda
Hatched Spring 2024
Black Australorp
Oh, Wanda. Did something go wrong in your hatch? She is perpetually afraid of life. Wanda lives her life assuming death is awaiting her around every corner. After her first molt, she grew a tail that seems to be French braided. Despite telling her consistently how beautiful she is, Wanda still thinks we're going to murder her.

Wanda
Egg Color: Light Brown, sometimes speckled
Egg Size: Large
True to her personality, Wanda thinks she's dying when she lays an egg. She screams to let everyone know she needs to lay an egg. She screams to let everyone know she's laying an egg. She screams to let everyone know she just laid an egg. Why, Wanda? Why?
